  Jody Fletcher creates useful pieces of art. Fletcher, owner of Aus Tex Originals classifies himself as an designer/artisan that builds and creates unique furniture. Central States Manufacturing officially opened its new branch in Seguin during a grand opening ceremony Wednesday morning. The business specializes in metal roofing and building products that are used in the construction of post frame steel buildings. They also produce standing seam products. The Park Plaza Hotel, located in Seguin, Texas, has been recently restored and is open for visitors and diners alike.  Owner Jenny Savage said, “When I bought this building, it was always my plan to turn it into a hotel geared toward the corporate market and weddings”.  Utilizing the original drawings by famed architect Leo Dielmann, plans are to take the grand hotel back to its origins.  The hotel houses 30 rooms and a full scale restaurant (the Chop House), bar and lobby.  

  The Seguin Economic Development Corporation was recently recognized at the state level for bringing Niagara Bottle, Inc to the city. Soon Seguin residents will be able to bike around on the mostly complete 2.5-mile Walnut Springs Trail. “This is a great amenity to the city along Walnut Branch Creek which will provide, not only a means of exercise and recreation, but also pedestrian and bicycle connectivity to anyone who works or who needs a safe passage to the Tyson plant, TLU, Park West, the police station and as far south to the new library,” the city’s project manager Nate Garza said.  READ MORE...  

In 1838, when Seguin was known as Walnut Springs, the population of the city was smaller than most area high schools’ graduating classes. Now, more than 175 years later, one could say the city’s population has hit a milestone number. “Reaching 30,000 population is a good thing for the city for a number of reasons,” Mayor Don Keil said.
