La Vernia ISD breaks ground for Bond 2023’s Proposition A projects

The La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony Dec. 2 for the district’s Bond 2023 projects. The event took place at La Vernia Intermediate School and was attended by district leaders, administration, and board members.

The Bond 2023 initiative, approved by voters in May 2023, is to ensure that La Vernia ISD has future capacity to accommodate student enrollment growth and to provide classroom space for students currently in overcrowded campuses. The bond is also aimed at renovating aging facilities throughout the school district as part of the district’s long-range preventative maintenance plan.

The bond included two propositions which were both approved. Proposition A, in the amount of $108 million, will fund safety and security upgrades to include access control at each campus, additional classrooms throughout the district, technology infrastructure, new buses, and campus renovations. Proposition B, for $1 million, funded replacement of athletic turf that has exceeded its life cycle. This was completed in the summer of 2023.
