“Earn as You Learn” Cohort to Ignite Workforce Development in Manufacturing

Modern manufacturing companies are struggling to fill key roles as they recover from the repercussions of the pandemic while facing a retirement surge amongst the Baby Boomer generation. This significant gap could result in 2.1 million unfilled jobs by 2030 potentially resulting in a loss of $1 trillion in 2030 alone*.  Manufacturers are also struggling to fill intermediate-level jobs that entail some level of technical training or applied skills. Fortunately, coalitions of manufacturers have joined forces and are working toward a solution.

The Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (TX FAME) will be kicking off its first cohort for the new South-Central chapter in August of 2022. FAME is an “earn as you learn” workforce development program that utilizes manufacturing core competencies, intensive professional practices and intentional hands-on experience to develop entry-level, college-ready students into future leaders of the modern manufacturing industry. Practice areas include electrical, robotics, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication, industrial troubleshooting and more. Students can also expect lessons that tackle the Manufacturing Core Exercises and Professional Behaviors.
