County discusses strategic plan, hires consultants

County officials are working to create a plan for the future.

Recently, the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court unanimously agreed to hire GAP Strategies Inc. as consultants to help create a strategic plan for the county.

“That plan really is going to be laid out based on what we want as a county,” Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher said. “I envision an overall encompassing plan that looks at multiple areas that would include capital projects, building construction, renovation, building or land purchases, transportation projects, economic development, quality of life issues — things the public wants us to look at.”

The county hasn’t had a plan, however, they have talked about creating one in the past, Kutscher said.

“Some people find that there is a benefit in going through the process, others don’t really have that buy in because they haven’t been through the process and they aren’t sure,” he said. “It is important to go through the process to try to make sure we are focusing on the right priorities to give a kind of pathway forward, so we are operating in what we consider and what the community considers a proper direction.”

Commissioner Jim Wolverton said the process of creating a plan isn’t an easy task.
