Why SA's data center market outlook is brighter than Austin's in 2018

The San Antonio metro area is positioned to see more data center leasing activity and potential construction, more so than the Austin market, according to a recent report by Chicago-based real estate investment company Jones Lang LaSalle LP Inc.
One factor driving that is that the cost of ownership — or the requirements for running a data center, such as redundant electricity, internet and technical expertise — is less expensive in San Antonio than Austin.
The local market is also home to more enterprise data centers, which are sprawling climate-controlled buildings housing computer server farms.
Meanwhile, the Austin market has more co-location data centers — or shared computer server warehouses — likely to support midmarket technology companies, Curt Holcomb, JLL's executive vice president of global data center solutions, told the Business Journal. READ MORE...
