New Sonic, Dollar General locations underway

Dirt has been shoveled and a building has been constructed at two separate spots that will soon house a new Sonic Drive-In and a Dollar General.

Sonic Drive-In, which broke ground at 968 W. Court St., in November 2017, plans to open between Feb. 5 and 15 — replacing the 961 W. Court St. location.

The new spot will feature a drive-thru window, volleyball courts, a wraparound patio area, playscape and the regular drive-in food service.

“The Sonic Drive-In that we’re at right now has been there since the 70s, so they wanted to expand for a while now, but it was just a matter of finding the right property,” Megan Esparza, Sonic Drive-In part owner, said.

After looking at other Sonics with volleyball courts and playscapes, Sonic management jumped on board when the two properties across from the old location became available, she said.

The new location will help draw in a variety of customers, Esparza said.
