$25K tourism video in use after almost 3 years

In 2015, the City of Gonzales authorized $25,000 in funding toward the creation of a Gonzales tourism video. Two years and several months after the final edits were made to the video, the Gonzales Convention and Visitors Bureau is finally putting the film, produced by local businessman Rick Green, to use – as means to promote the city.

Gonzales' Tourism Development Director Clint Hille has, since September, been charged with boosting local tourism. He said he is doing this by promoting the city's charms and by painting Gonzales' as a go-to destination that appeals beyond the curiosities of the average day trippers and attracts more overnight guests.

The original video weighed in at more than eight minutes and placed a lot of focus on Green's family business, The Alcalde Hotel. The recent cut of the video placed focus on the history and architecture of Gonzales.

Hille has taken the video and played it on a loop at a number of trade-type conventions across the region, including San Antonio and Houston and has said he feels the tourism market has plenty of room to grow and with the proper promotion the city will see an increase in the proverbial "heads in beds" at the city's many under-occupied hotels.

Hille said he is reaching out to a market of potential tourists in further-away areas like Katy and Houston, hoping visitors from distances such as these will come to take in the sites and history Gonzales has to offer, turning a day trip into a weekend.

In addition to reaching beyond central Texas, Hille said he will continue working on Gonzales' appeal to San Antonio tourists flocking to tour The Alamo, uniting the destinations as "sister cities."
