GVEC's SunHub Project Nears Completion

GVEC will soon be producing local, renewable energy via its new SunHub Generation Station. It’s the Co-op’s first ever generation asset and community solar project. When construction began last summer, SunHub was one of only seven distribution-scale solar projects underway in Texas.

The two-megawatt facility is located on 16 acres between Seguin and Gonzales, Texas, and is being built by AEP Onsite LLC. Once it goes live in mid-November, weather permitting, the facility is expected to deliver more than four million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy a year, thanks to approximately 6,500 solar panels powered by South Texas sunshine.

Once generation is underway, GVEC members will be able to purchase blocks of solar energy each month. Among other things, the SunHub community solar project provides a no-strings-attached solution for GVEC members who are interested in supporting renewable solar energy, but not in buying or installing a solar panel system on their home.
